Fun Fact: This boro Vest was dyed with natural indigo and made with boro sashiko patching over a long period of time since the 1900 Edo Period. It was used in the Shonai area during the Edo period (Now Yamagata Prefecture.) The Shonai area flourished in Kitamaesen. Kitamaesen is a commercial trading ship. The area was rich, so the import of old cotton was thriving. Sashiko patching was added over the generation and time to the jacket. At the time, it was an important item during the wedding. This beautiful boro jacket was made with mainstream craftsmanship and seamless. Work clothes that were damaged due to being wealthy were left unused. Therefore, the work clothes Boro with such restoration is rare and valuable. In the Shonai area, if the original work clothes had significant damage, they were not heavily repaired. It is a unique piece with various color of indigo fabric and it has some weight to it. One-of-a-kind, this vest is in excellent boro condition & museum grade. It can be worn both sides (reversible) or to be hung up for display.
